Beaufort SC Events - Beaufort
Twilight Run
Runners in the
Lowcountry delight in Beaufort's Twilight Run each March because they
are able to connect with unspoiled nature along the course – the sight
of a pink sky at sunset, the smell of a nearby marsh and the exotic
sounds of local wild birds. Another benefit for runners is the race
course is fast because it is flat.
Only the anticipation
of relaxing on a rocking chair on a front porch among twinkling stars
at nighttime in Beaufort could compete with the enthusiasm of race
participants. Runners who sign up for a race raise money for Beaufort
County's first public charter school: Riverview Charter School.
Children and adults
of all ages are invited to participate in the event, which graces the
coastline of a waterfront community called Habersham in this popular
Lowcountry destination.
Kids can participate
in a Kids' Fun Run that is a quarter-mile long, which is the first
event, followed by a timed sanctioned United States Track and Field (USAT)
competitive 8k race. Walkers can join in the 5k non-competitive fun
walk at the same time as the USAT 8k race. All the races begin and
end at Habersham Marketplace in downtown Beaufort.
Runners searching for
pasta to help fuel their muscles the night before the race have
several options for pasta dining – Plums Restaurant and Cinelli's
Pizza and Pasta Incorporated. Plums Restaurant, located at 904 Bay
Street, features pasta dishes mixed with chicken or seafood along with
main courses of seafood, steaks and salads so all dining members can
enjoy. For more casual dining race participants can consider
Cinelli's Restaurant. From spaghetti and meatballs, baked ziti or a
slice of pizza and salad, the restaurant caters to both adults and
children. Cinelli's Restaurant is located in Shell Point Plaza.
In the morning,
runners and spectators can grab a cup of coffee, some orange juice or
a pastry in the lobby of the City Loft Hotel
at City Java and News. The coffee and pastry shop opens as early as
six o'clock in the morning during the week and seven o'clock on
Saturday. The City Loft Hotel is a luxury accommodation in the
heart of historic downtown Beaufort, SC.
Families, friends and
race participants can sink their teeth into some local Lowcountry
oysters and seafood, too. A free Beaufort Oyster Roast is offered for
all right after the race is over, providing the perfect reason to
further celebrate racing victories, a good cause, and the chance for
Beaufort residents and visitors to gather together on a warm spring
evening under the stars.
